Troubleshooting

The cutout is rough or eats into my subject.+

The background remover is color-based, so it works best on photos with clean, uniform backgrounds. Try lowering the tolerance slider — that prevents the tool from matching colors that are similar to your subject. If the edges look jagged, raise the edge feather slider to 1 or 2 for smoother transitions. For cluttered backgrounds, cropping closer to the subject before processing also helps.

Some background pixels are still showing.+

Increase the tolerance slider so the tool matches a wider range of background colors. The default of 32 is conservative; bumping it to 50 or 60 often clears stragglers. You can hit Restore Original at any time and try a different value.

The watermark removal left a smudge.+

Watermarks placed over very detailed or textured backgrounds are the hardest case. Two things help: paint a slightly larger selection (with one or two pixels of padding around the watermark), and increase the Fill Radius slider. If the smudge is still visible, you can paint a smaller area inside the smudge and run Remove Watermark again — repeated passes blend the patch in further.

I don't see a Remove background option in the right-click menu.+

Make sure the extension is enabled at chrome://extensions. The context menu only appears on right-clicked images (not links or plain text). If it still doesn't show up, restart Chrome — the context menu is registered on extension load.

The extension is slow on a very large image.+

Images larger than 1600 pixels on the longest edge are automatically scaled down before processing to keep things fast. The exported PNG matches that working resolution. If you need higher resolution output, resize the input image to between 1200 and 1600 pixels on the long edge before opening it in the extension.

Can I use the extension offline?+

Yes. Once installed, the extension runs entirely offline. The only feature that needs internet is the Load URL input, which fetches an image you point it at directly to your browser.

Where is my edited image saved?+

When you click Download PNG, the file is saved to your browser's default download folder (usually ~/Downloads on macOS, the Downloads folder on Windows). The filename is based on the original image plus -edited.png.

Reporting a bug

If something is broken, the more context we have, the faster we can fix it. When emailing us, please include:

We don't collect any data from the extension itself, so we rely on your report to reproduce the issue. Sending a sample image (the one that triggered the problem) is hugely helpful — but please remove anything personal first.
